Tried And Tested Time Management Tips For Student- Athletes!

For student-athletes and even for sports enthusiasts, it can sometimes be overwhelming to maintain a healthy studies-sports relationship. It is human nature to be drawn towards things that excite us, which is why they are drawn more towards the sports part.

However, it is not smart to invest all your time in sports and spend it on the field. For one, you are not doing the one thing that you are paying for, which is getting an education. Secondly, it is not healthy to be obsessed with something and ignore the next thing completely.

This can result in a potential burnout and can be emotionally exhaustive. Even if you play for a league of your university or your college, your coaches will never advise you to spend long hours in the field. They might ask for some extra coaching during the playing season, but they won’t do so the entire year.

This is also true for all cheerleaders and the people involved in the arrangement of sports events. If you are a student-athlete and you find yourself stuck between the dilemma of social, studies, and sports, then you are in the right place. This edition of the sporty club is all about time management skills for you all MVPs out there.

Set Your Priorities

Student-athletes have a lot on their plates, and their never-ending lists of tasks are so long that it can reach the moon. Between class, sports schedules, training, and work, there is little to no time left for anything else.

One of the key points that will help you is to prioritize each task and complete them in that order. It is one of the most effective strategies that will ensure that you complete the most important task first.

Choose A Flexible Schedule

Since you are free to set your time table yourself, you can smartly keep your sports schedule in mind while doing so. Traveling days can be tough for student-athletes as taking classes on a bus is no less than a task. Therefore, accommodating classes that don’t clash with the seasons will be beneficial.

As soon as you set the timetable, get to know your professors so that you can have them on your side. Even if that does not happen, you can at least know how they are by nature. So you can prepare yourself to deal with them.

Set Short Term And Long Term Goals

In my experience, one of the only things that will help you get through the degree in one piece is to set your goals. Leaving everything to the last minute will not help you at all and would instead get you in a rut of repeated failure.

However, you can save yourself by setting small goals for the week and sticking to them. You can, for example, set 2 hours for serious studying per day and similarly something for the sports part of your life as well.

Always remember to set realistic goals, but the ones that will push you out of your comfort zone and would allow you to challenge yourself. After all, no one gets anything by staying in the comfort zone.

Lastly, hold yourself accountable by reporting to someone who would keep on the right track.

Take Care Of Yourself

Tackling so many things at once can burn you out and leave you with zero energy at the end of the academic year. This is why make yourself a priority to stay on top of your academics and athletics game.

Go for a walk, meditate, work out, watch a movie, or treat yourself to a good dinner. You know, you deserve it!
